This Freaking Pandemic

I’m not going to lie. I am scared of this Coronavirus outbreak. I am scared of getting the virus and potentially ending up in the hospital. I am scared for my family to get the virus. My daughter came home from her college condo two days ago and she had a cough. YIKES!

Spring break for a lot of students, my daughter included, was two weeks ago. We had heard of the virus but people weren’t as concerned as they are today. My husband and I facetimed her through Instagram LIVE while she was enjoying time with friends at Fort Lauderdale beach. Flash forward to today…. AGHHHHHHHH!!!

Needless to say, emotions are running high in our house right now. I am worried that her coughing is affecting the whole family, especially her sister, who she is sleeping with at night while home. When I try to remind her to wash her hands, cough into her sleeve, etc. she catches a defensive attitude. She feels like she is being ostracized to a certain extent. I, on the other hand, just want to limit any spread of any virus.

It is important for us to understand and respect the feelings of others during this pandemic. Tensions are running high and it’s easy to snap at each other. Biting your tongue and waiting a couple seconds before snapping is a good strategy to adopt. As far as our kids go, they usually aren’t able to have that level of constraint, so we have to let their attitudes roll off our backs a little more.

Nothing lasts forever and I don’t expect this pandemic to last. The uncertainty is how long it will vastly affect us and our way of life. The good thing is that we are able to adapt to our new reality. Let us take this moment in time to enjoy our time together.

Play card games or board games with the kids. If you are having a hard time finding games at Walmart or Target, you can always rely on Amazon. Here are a few games I like that you can purchase on Amazon by clicking on the link next to the name of the game:
