STAYING CALM DURING THE STORM

It is easy to get anxious over the unknown.  We are currently in a global situation that is bringing a lot of anxiety, fear, stress, and uncertainty.  There are worries over getting sick with Coronavirus, our lifestyle changes, income uncertainty, childcare, and child welfare, etc.  Fear of the unknown is what creates the most anxiety.

I live in South Florida and we experience a lot of hurricanes.  Each hurricane is unique and brings its own uncertainties.  We have learned to adapt and to prepare for the possibility or the inevitability.  With that mindset, we enter the uncertainty and inevitability of living with the Coronavirus amongst us.

Knowledge is power.  It brings with it its own strength that helps to alleviate anxiety and fear.  So, the more you know, the more confident you feel. I’m not saying all that you learn will instantly make you feel relieved, but it will give you the power to control your actions and secure your safety.

The Coronavirus is scary.  I will admit that it brings me some anxiety and worry, but I am trying to stay educated and level-headed.  So, what do we know?

As of the date of this blog, the President has called a 15-day plan to stop the spread.  This will take all of us working together to keep each other safe and from spreading the virus causing more infections and potential deaths.  One thing I know about America is that when there is a crisis, no matter how divided we may be, we come together and help each other.  The union that a crisis creates amongst Americans is so touching to me.  People show their sensitivity and love for one another – known or strangers.

We CAN overcome this crisis like we have many times in the past.  We WILL come together and be strong and united to stop the spread of this virus.  We ARE a loving and compassionate country.

Heed the advice of the experts.  Protect yourself.  Protect your loved ones.  Protect those that are at high risk.  Stay informed.  Stay alert.  Stay vigilant.  Stay hopeful.  Stay thankful. Stay calm during the storm.
