I have always been a writer. When I was a girl and teenager, I wrote a lot of poetry and short stories. As I got into my 20-30’s, I still wrote poetry and also song lyrics. In the last few years, I started writing personalized wedding ceremonial scripts and my first published book.
My mother always had a dream for me to write a book. Both my parents are avid readers and Mom always hoped I would write a book which I did a year ago and published a couple of months ago. My book was a labor of love. It was much easier to write and edit it than it was to self-publish and market it. I am a writer, not a marketing exec or publisher. I just want to write and let someone else take care of the rest, but until you “make it”, you gotta make it. I have always loved quotes. They are thought-provoking, quick to read and you can ponder on them as long as you want. They can uplift, empower, give hope, and encouragement. One of my favorite poets is Rumi. Rumi was a 13th-century Persian Muslim poet and Sufi mystic. His poetry speaks much of love on a personal and spiritual level.
Rumi was very passionate in many ways and it is reflected in his poetry and quotes. His words have a profound ability to expand the mind and senses. His insight offers us an understanding of our true essential nature of existence and expands our conscious reality. Here are some of my favorite quotes from Rumi:
“The wound is the place where the Light enters you.” I love this quote because it makes you remember that no matter how hurt you may be, an opening has been created to allow the light to heal you. It is also a reminder that there is always positive in every event.
“Lovers don’t finally meet somewhere. They’re in each other all along.” This quote really resonated with me. I used it in my wedding script when I got married.
“You have to keep breaking your heart until it opens.” How many times have you had a broken heart and vowed to never love again?? Allowing yourself to be vulnerable is the beauty of love.
“You were born with wings, why prefer to crawl through life?” Ah….what a gift of words he had. When you feel that you are being held back in life, frustrated or impatient, this quote can uplift and strengthen you.
“Set your life on fire. Seek those who fan your flames.” Surround yourself with those that uplift you with words of encouragement and hope. Stay away from the negative people who only want to pull you down to their level. This would be a great quote to tell a child to remember as he/she begins their journey in life.
“This is love: to fly toward a secret sky, to cause a hundred veils to fall each moment. First to let go of life. Finally, to take a step without feet.” Another quote I used in my wedding script. Every time I read these words I am just taken aback. Such beauty and soul. A true romantic’s poet.
“When the world pushes you to your knees, you’re in the perfect position to pray.” This quote is one of his more obvious spiritual ones, but I love the imagery and truth it holds. It gives a person who feels overwhelmed, challenged or defeated: hope.
“Let yourself be silently drawn by the strange pull of what you really love. It will not lead you astray.” Plainly stated, follow your passion. Your passion will never steer you wrong. Don’t be afraid. Your passion is the path you are meant to travel down.
“Very little grows on jagged rock. Be ground. Be crumbled, so wildflowers will come up where you are.” Be soft. Be pliable. Be easy with life and all that is in your life and watch the beauty grow.
Turn to quotes when you need to be empowered, uplifted or encouraged. Allow the words to resonate with you and bring you hope.
